“I’ve worked with thousands of celebrities, been accused of killing one, and mourned the deaths of a few.”
THE BIG BANG
I'm sending healing thoughts to anyone who is fighting an illness. In my profession 🎥 we don’t have sick days and even if we did, I would work anyway, unless I had COVID!! I would hate to disappoint. Don’t name it, can’t claim it is my motto. I take full responsibility for my immune system and I apologize in advance for compromising yours.😭 There have been times I’ve guzzled 😝cough syrup to hide a cold or once I concealed a severed ear for several shooting days by matting my hair to the wound to coagulate the blood, before finally going in for a million stitches. That gave me a new meaning to ‘the show must go on.’
Nothing stops me. Years ago, I was double-booked with an early morning commercial shoot that wrapped just in time for my call time with a film project. I hustled into the dark warehouse staging area. I heard my last looks cue 🎬and drew a beeline to the set. Unbeknownst to me, a glass wall had been built ceiling to floor. I traveled Mach 4, with my hair on fire and hit head first into the glass. Primarily it was a recreation of the television commercial with the flying bird into the super clean window. I don’t know what happened to the poor bird but it took me awhile to heal from my concussion and brain injury. That was my showstopper. I had plenty of forced time off while I fully recuperated. That movie was called “The Big Bang.” It really was.
This story isn't in my memoir Mirror Mirror: Confessions of a Celebrity Makeup Artist but I do share plenty of stories with some of the biggest stars in the tv and movie industry.

My hands are angry and screaming for attention. Singing the alphabet song for the required twenty second germ-hand-washing has caused dry and uncomfortable chapped skin. Here is a simple recipe for your hands and lips too!
A tablespoon of brown sugar, a few drops of honey (to seal in moisture) splashes of coconut oil, a sprinkle of cinnamon, a dash of vanilla and a dollop of almond oil. Let your skin soak up the goodness and rinse.
Don’t worry…if you want an easier fix, I’ve got you.
Helping Hands
I'm having my nails 💅fixed at the salon and I'm reflecting back on the time I lived in Los Angeles. I was on my way to LAX to fly out for a gig. Taci VanLeuven, my daughter, was driving me and I noticed my nails needed attention.
“Where should I take you?” Taci asked.
“Any street corner.” I replied.
There’s never any parking in Santa Monica, so Taci drove around waiting for me, mortified I would try to squeeze in an impromptu appointment on the way to unknown traffic problems at theeee busiest airport.
I expressed my plea but each nail technician was busy attending to clients…ones who didn’t walk 😳in but called ahead.
I heard a sweet voice coming from a woman with her back turned to me. “Honey, you can take my seat. I don’t mind waiting.”
I thanked her profusely. It was “Three’s Company” actress Joyce DeWitt. We became fast friends and I did her makeup for several projects afterwards, including “Hollywood Squares.”
This story isn't in my memoir Mirror Mirror: Confessions of a Celebrity Makeup Artist but I dish about how I competed in the World Series of Poker and the time I was accused of killing a celebrity, overcame sexism, self-doubt, and a number of difficult situations in my career.
